My bio
I am Renee Modica, MD, and I am a clinical associate professor of pediatric rheumatology in the University of Florida Department of Pediatric Rheumatology. I earned my medical degree from SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn, New York. After completing my degree, I completed pediatrics residency at Orlando Regional Healthcare System. I then completed my Master of Science degree at the University of Southern California.
My passion for pediatric rheumatology was inspired first by my grandfather, who practiced medicine in the early 1900鈥檚, and then by my father and brother who both followed in his footsteps. I began volunteering in a hospital as a teenager where I shared my family鈥檚 intellectual curiosity and fulfillment in caring for patients during their time of greatest need. When I began working with children and adolescents, I felt inspired by their imagination and resilience and knew that I wanted to be a helping partner in their medical journeys. Pediatric rheumatology is an innovative and challenging field and I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in the Childhood Arthritis Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) Registry as well several clinical trials.
My clinical interests include juvenile arthritis, dermatomyositis, vasculitis, scleroderma, systemic lupus erythematosus and periodic fever syndromes. As a clinical educator my goal is to teach learners, patients and their families about recognizing and treating rheumatic conditions while providing comprehensive care for my patients. I strive to be a supportive colleague and hospitable consultant to assist in caring for complex patients with autoimmune disorders. I am so grateful to my patients for the privilege of entrusting and allowing me to help support them for their medical needs.
My favorite ways to spend time outside of my work in medicine include travelling, snow skiing, cooking and spending time with friends and family.
