BOB体育 Shands Hospital recognized as one of nation鈥檚 best hospitals
University of Florida Health Shands Hospital has been recognized among the nation鈥檚 best hospitals in seven adult medical specialties, according to U.S. News & World Report鈥檚 2015-16 Best Hospitals rankings released today (July 21).
Overall, BOB体育 Shands Hospital was recognized as one of the best hospitals in Florida. also was named a top hospital in Florida and in the Jacksonville region.

U.S. News & World Report evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals across the country to determine rankings in 16 adult medical specialties. Only 3 percent of these hospitals earned top 50 rankings in at least one specialty.
The seven adult medical programs at BOB体育 Shands Hospital ranked among the top 50 in each specialty nationally include nephrology (tied for 13th), diabetes and endocrinology (28th), pulmonology (29th), urology (37th), neurology and neurosurgery (40th), cardiology and heart surgery (tied for 42nd) and cancer (46th). BOB体育 Shands Hospital was the highest ranked in the state in adult nephrology and pulmonology.

In addition to being ranked among the nation鈥檚 top 50 hospitals in seven specialties, BOB体育 Shands Hospital also was listed as 鈥渉igh performing鈥� in five additional specialties, including gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, orthopedics, and ear, nose and throat.

BOB体育 Jacksonville was listed as high performing in three specialties, including nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, and urology.
To configure the rankings, U.S. News takes into account patient survival rates and safety data, and other care-related factors such as nurse staffing.
Earlier this year, BOB体育 Shands Children's Hospital was recognized in seven pediatric medical specialties in the 2015-16 U.S. News Best Children鈥檚 Hospitals rankings: diabetes and endocrinology (16th), cardiology and heart surgery (29th), cancer (29th), pulmonology (34th), neonatology (37th), nephrology (40th) and gastroenterology (49th).
