Dr. Ruth E. Levine is the Clarence Ross Miller Professor of Psychiatry and Internal Medicine and Director of Undergraduate Education in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UTMB. She is also the current Director of the UTMB Academy of Master Teachers. In addition to an intensive teaching schedule, Dr. Levine maintains an established outpatient practice within the Psychiatry department with a specific interest in mood and anxiety disorders. Dr. Levine maintains memberships in several scientific societies, and serves on the Executive Council of the Directors of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry and the Team Based Learning Collaborative. Her scholarly contributions are numerous and include articles in peer-reviewed journals, chapters, books, educational materials, abstracts and professional presentations.

12:00 1:00 pm Plenary Lecture: Team Based Learning for Health Science Educators
Objectives By the end of the lecture, participants will:
know the essential elements of TBL and be able to differentiate it from other didactic methods
appreciate the research underlying the pedagogy of team based learning
be familiar with some of the latest TBL research findings in health science education
recognize the strengths and challenges associated with adopting the method
1:30 4:00 pm Peer Evaluation Pickles: The Challenge of Peer Evaluation in the Context of Team Based Learning
Objectives Participants will learn about principles of peer evaluation in team based learning, and will be able to:
describe the different types of peer evaluation in team based learning
differentiate between the qualitative and quantitative forms of peer evaluation
appreciate the importance of peer evaluation in TBL, and articulate the ways of helping students become more comfortable with evaluating their peers
