Addressing Cultural Competency: A Novel Curriculum for Pediatric and Child Psychiatry Residents
CME lecture
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Describe the development of a cultural curriculum for pediatric psychiatry residents and faculty that addresses knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to deliver comprehensive, culturally inclusive care to a diverse patient population. Promote cultural awareness and sensitivity by demonstrating how to utilize the DSM -V Cultural Formulation during psychiatry clinical rotations. Discuss culturally competent systems based care and cross-discipline collaborative learning with psychology, social work, juvenile justice, family/peer, and community agencies, etc. Identify potential barriers in the development and longevity of a cultural curriculum in psychiatry residency training programs.
This program has been approved for 1.0 clinical hours of continuing education for clinical social workers, mental health counselors and marriage and family therapists by Shands at the University of Florida, Patient and Family Resources, BAP-7. Shands HealthCare is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Georgia Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Centers COA.
