Description
Dr. Christine Kasper, PhD, RN, FAAN, FACSM, of the Daniel K. Inouye Graduate School of Nursing & Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Nursing Services, will be presenting a talk entitled "Muscle and Heavy Metals: A Toxic Mix" as part of the College of Nursing's Research Colloquium series. Dr. Kaspers program of research has focused on mechanisms of skeletal muscle atrophy and recovery. Currently she has expanded this work to study the genotoxic effects of embedded heavy metals in the form of war related retained shrapnel. A second line of research involves the effects of behavioral stimulation and anti-inflammatory therapies to mitigate the effects of blast induced traumatic brain injury. Her research has included funding from the National Institutes of Health, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
