I would like welcome all faculty and students to attend a seminar presented by Dr. Nikolaos Nikitakis, Associate Professor at the Dental School, University of Athens, Greece, at noon on Monday 14th April, 2014, in Room D8-11 titled Attempting to unwind oral cancer's complexity: The first 15 years of my research journey"

Nikolaos G. Nikitakis received his DDS and MD from the University of Athens, Greece and his PhD in Oral and Experimental Pathology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, USA. He completed his specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology in the University of Maryland and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Maxillofacial Pathology since 2003. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and the American Academy of Oral Medicine and a member of various scientific societies.

He has served as Assistant Professor and Director of the PhD and Residency Program in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, University of Maryland. He is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Oral Pathology and Medicine, Dental School, University of Athens, Greece.

His clinical interests include the clinical diagnosis and management of oral and maxillofacial diseases and the histopathologic diagnosis of oral, head and neck lesions.

He is actively involved in teaching Oral Pathology and Medicine at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in the University of Athens.

His research interests primarily focus on oral, head and neck oncology / cancer research. He has received and participated in various research grants.

He has over 180 scientific publications with more than 1.500 citations (h index: 24). He has presented numerous scientific papers and invited lectures in national and international meetings.

He has received several honors and awards, including the Waldron Award (AAOMP) and the Hamilton B.G. Robinson Prize (OOOO). He also serves as an Editorial Board member and/or reviewer of various scientific journals.
