The ACGMEs accreditation system has undergone major changes. What once included biopic visits based upon accreditation cycle lengths (most program were visited and reviewed once every 4-5 years) has now changed to a system of continuous oversight and annual accreditation. Components now include a 10-year self-study visit in addition to site visits as needed for the program or institution. This session will review the changes related to transitioning from the old accreditation system to the current accreditation system.
Objectives:
- To discuss the ACGMEs change in emphasis from descriptions to milestones and outcomes.
- To discuss ways to prepare for the program components reviewed by the RCs on an annual basis for accreditation.
- To discuss what is needed in preparation for a self-study and 10-year site visit.
- To discuss the connections between the ACGMEs System-based Practice and Problem-based Learning and Improvement competencies, Safety and Quality, and the new Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) and CLER site visits.
