Focus

Dr. Maciel is the Director of Research for the Neurocritical Care division at the University of Florida Gainesville system and holds research faculty positions at Yale University and University of Utah. Dr. Maciel's interests include developing team science to tackle complex scientific questions in the neurocritically ill population. Dr. Maciel's areas of scientific focus include neuroprognostication, secondary brain injury mechanisms while understanding the impact of cortical electrical phenomena (seizures and cortical spreading depolarization) after acute brain injuries, novel therapeutic approaches to status epilepticus and acute pain, and the critical care management of the potential organ donor.
